Gordon F. Gibbs, MD and his wife Erin Reilly Gibbs opened the first American Vein & Vascular Institute (formerly Rocky Mountain Vein Institute) in 2009 located in Pueblo, Colorado. The network of vein centers has since grown to be the largest in Colorado.

A Mayo Clinic trained, board certified diagnostic radiologist and vascular interventional radiologist, Dr. Gibbs is a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM). He writes for such publications as Vein Therapy News, Vein Magazine and MD News. A sought-after speaker, educator and thought leader, Dr. Gibbs serves on the faculty for Medtronic’s Master’s and Summit courses. He is also a recipient of Centura Health’s Halos for Heroes Award, which recognizes world-class service in healthcare. This award allows patients, family and friends to recognize and honor a specific caregiver who provided them with outstanding service. An active member of the American College of Phlebology, Dr. Gibbs continues to serve as Medical Director of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

Philanthropic efforts led by Dr. Gibbs include leading American Vein & Vascular Institute to sponsor such events as the “Think Pink Party” for breast health awareness, various Senior Health Fairs, and Cowboys Kickin’ Cancer. American Vein & Vascular Institute has participated in National Women’s Health Week, the Greater Pueblo Chamber and Pueblo Chieftain Business & Lifestyle Expo, and Vail Valley’s annual Heart Health Expo.

The company also supports non-medical community efforts, such as the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center’s annual Anniversary Gala fundraising event and CSU-Pueblo’s “On The Move” fundraiser. Dr. Gibbs has encouraged and takes pride in American Vein & Vascular Institute staff members’ personal contributions of time and resources to nonprofit organizations as well.

After earning a B.S. in biology from Santa Clara University, California in 1994, Dr. Gibbs earned his Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Illinois in 1999. His post-graduate medical training included a surgical internship at Mayo Clinic in completed in 2000, a research fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Investigational Radiology in 2001, a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Mayo Clinic from 2001 through 2005, and a Vascular/Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic completed in 2006.

Because one of American Vein & Vascular Institute’s core values is education, it is a teaching site with state-of-the art technology and high diagnostic standards. Dr. Gibbs has developed a six-month, intensive phlebology training program open to all specialties and mid-level healthcare professionals, including physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Trainees work under Dr. Gibbs and receive encouragement and direction from American Vein & Vascular Institute’s other board certified vein specialists as well as from the supporting staff.

Finally, Dr. Gibbs is medical director for the full-service vascular labs accredited through the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Vascular Laboratories (IAC), at each clinic location. These put American Vein & Vascular Institute among the top 10 percent of vascular labs for vascular diagnosis.
