ARLINGTON, Texas – Rocky Mountain Vein Institute (RMVI) Services, a medical management company that oversees a network of clinics that diagnose and treat people with venous disease, announces that Matthew Smith, BA, MS, RVT, has been named Lead Vascular Ultrasound Technologist at Trinity Vein Institute, located at 515 West Mayfield Road, Suite 407. Smith is also unique in his position as Technical Director for The Diagnostic Center.
In his position, Smith works closely with a team of multidisciplinary medical experts and technologists, performs inpatient and outpatient vascular ultrasound testing, obtains pre- and post-operative diagnostic vascular information, and assists with intra-operative carotid and venous closure procedures, among other responsibilities. Ultrasound technicians, also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, operate sonographic scanners that create images of patients’ internal organs.
Smith came to Trinity Vein Institute with nearly a decade of experience in hospital, clinic and laboratory settings. He earned his Certificate in Vascular Ultrasound from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. in 2004 and has been a Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) Member since 2004. SVU is the only professional organization solely dedicated to the advancement of noninvasive vascular technology used in the diagnosis of vascular disease.

According to Rocky Mountain Vein Institute, nearly 80 million Americans suffer from venous disease – a chronic and potentially debilitating condition where the vein walls or valves weaken, stretch or become damaged, and normal blood flow is interrupted. Blood begins to flow backward and increases pressure in the veins, causing more stretching, twisting, and swelling of veins. Ultimately this causes venous reflux disease, which presents as a variety of symptoms, such as heavy/achy legs, restless legs, cramping and edema, or swelling. Vein disease is treatable and covered by most health insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
