VAIL VALLEY, Colo. – Rocky Mountain Vein Institute (RMVI) announces that it will provide the public with ultrasound screenings of the veins in the legs to determine the presence of venous disease, as well as screenings of the carotid arteries to determine risk of stroke, during Heart-Health Morning at the first annual Heart Health Expo and Breakfast event titled, “All You Need is ♥ (Heart).” The event will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at The Sebastian in Vail, located at 16 Vail Road.

RMVI is a network of vein centers that offer total vein care, from the simplest cosmetic problem to the most life-altering condition. RMVI is among several participants donating time and services at the first annual Heart Health Expo and Breakfast event, which is being provided to the public courtesy of Vail Valley Medical Center and Starting Hearts, an independent local nonprofit founded in 2010 by Lynn Blake, a 10-year Eagle County resident and the survivor of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) on Valentine’s Day 2007.

Registrants to the Heart Health Expo and Breakfast can receive up to $1200 in services, including:

  • Heart-Health Q&As with a Cardiologist
  • Electrocardiograms (EKG)
  • Heart, Carotid Artery & Vein Ultrasounds
  • Cholesterol & Triglyceride Tests
  • O2, Blood Pressure, Height & Weight Checks
  • Alternative Stress Reduction Techniques
  • Biofeedback Assessments

The event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Terry Gordon, was named American Heart Association’s 2002 National Physician of the Year, in part because of his efforts in placing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools across the state of Ohio after the untimely death of a 15-year-old Ohio football player from SCA. Registrants will receive an autographed copy of Gordon’s book, “No Storm Lasts Forever.”

The vein screening provided by Rocky Mountain Vein Institute at the Heart Health Expo includes an ultrasound exam and a conversation with a specialist provider. Those who schedule an appointment can learn about their vein health and whether they are a candidate for a full screening and consultation, which determines their customized treatment plan. RMVI is the first full-time clinic and diagnostic center dedicated to vein and vascular care within the Vail Valley community and surrounding mountain areas.

“RMVI has the well-deserved reputation of providing its patients with the best-practice care, technology and treatment available in vascular testing and treatment,” says RMVI founder, Chief Medical Executive and Medical Director, Gordon F. Gibbs, M.D. “The vein screenings we are offering on Valentine’s Day allow us to give back to the community by raising awareness about venous disease and ultimately reducing the mortality rate associated with venous disease.”

Since screening space is limited, registrants must make payment by mailing mail a check to: Starting Hearts, P.O. Box 4318, Avon, CO, 81620.
